Hello! If you are finding me through the One Room Challenge, it's so nice to meet you! I'm Amber, a wife and mother of two toddler boys and a sweet, floppy golden-doodle. We live as renters in my grandmother's home which she graciously lets us have our way with. I have an eclectic style and love fun colors. My main purpose in my blog is to teach people that with creativity, imagination, and a little bit (sometimes a lot a bit) of work, they can make their homes what they want without breaking the bank. Thank you so much for stopping by! Be sure to head over to my instagram, Homemaking Homebody, to see real life updates in my stories.
Yay! We're friends now! Let's get started on this challenge!
This is my first time participating and I'm honestly so excited. I will be transforming our office (which has been disguised as a giant storage room) into a creative space of my dream's- and my wallet's dreams. I am a creative at heart in so many ways and love to craft and make all of the things. My husband is on staff at a church leading worship, an online college student, and so far has not had a space to work on anything in our home. We live in a three bedroom home with this being the smallest bedroom, so we are having to be a little creative with how to make it work for both of us without unnecessary extra furniture.
Whether you're a crafter, a musician, or simply someone who just needs more workspace, I hope this space will be able to give you inspiration for your own home! Let's take a look at this room, shall we?
Okay, friends. I'm being super transparent and honest here... as bad as this room looked... this was after I had cleaned it up. This poor guy never had a chance to begin with. Anything we didn't feel like finding a home for ended up in here. Including that dishwasher, which thankfully now is finally at home in the kitchen. My first project, obviously, was organization and many trips to Goodwill.
Okay, enough looking at how sad that space is and thinking that Amber is possibly a hoarder (I'm not.. although I might have been before this...). INSTEAD LET'S LOOK AT WHAT WE'RE ACTUALLY WORKING WITH!
MUCH BETTER. Still not great. But I can gladly say I am no longer almost a hoarder. THATS ALREADY SUCH A WIN.
Like I said, this room is small, but it has so much potential! Let's talk about what we're going to do with it.
We will be building a wall to wall desk so that we can both sit comfortably together working, or have the ability to use the entire surface for large projects. On the wall the desk sits will be this beautiful wallpaper launching soon by my dear friend, Laci Fowler, and beneath it, separated by a chair rail, will be "sharpie-lap". (It's exactly what it sounds like - faux shiplap drawn by sharpie.) I will be making super easy, DIY, whimsical pom-pom curtains (I have made similar ones that I made for our bedroom), putting in a new rug, and painting the walls and trim white. We currently already have this Ikea shelving unit, so I will be purchasing better storage containers to organize it with. We also have an old filing cabinet I will be painting to house my vinyl.
Thankfully my husband is not afraid of color and doesn't mind my current obsession with pink rugs. The design style for this room is modern, colorful, and whimsical.
To say I'm excited for this space be not only functional, but beautiful, is a complete understatement. I can't wait to dive in!
Be sure to follow along the next five weeks here and over on my instagram, Homemaking Homebody, so that I can get to know you and you can see real life DIY in stories.
Thank you again for stopping by!
Let's be friends!
